Our logo has always been RED/BLACK/WHITE. We'd like to stick with these colors, but we are open to seeing color alternatives - though, frankly, they may not get the same consideration as something equally good that sticks within our color world.
Our logo has always included three specific elements:
2. the shape of a chainring/gear
3. the word BICYCLES
Once the internet became a thing, the word BICYCLES was swapped out with our domain address: JRBICYCLES.COM
But more recently, we started to occasionally use the version with just BICYCLES again.
It would be great to see variants of the logo that work with and without the URL. In house this has been a point of ongoing discussion: Does the logo need the web address, or are people web savvy enough these days to just find us without needing the full url and .com printed everywhere that we put our logo?
One more thing that is important to consider when creating the design, is that we'd like something that is somewhat easy to 'deconstruct'. Allow me to explain. We use our logo on many support products like hats, t-shirts, jerseys, banners, flags, tent tops, table tops, etc. Sometimes we will use just the chainring element of our logo for one area of a jersey design and use just the large J&R letters in another area, but then use the entire logo altogether somewhere else all within the same design. It would be important that we end up with 'usable pieces' from our one base logo design.
With all that said, if someone out there has ideas that don't include the chainring/gear, you can still submit. We've had more or less the same logo for nearly 30 years. People in our industry identify us by it, but we are also ready for a big change. So let's see what you can come up with. I will be honest, it would really take something incredible to sway us away from our familiar logo concept...but that's why we're here!
J&R is ready to take some bold steps forward this year and we want a bold new logo to lead the charge! Make sure your design is BIG, BOLD, FRESH, FAST, FUN, COOL and MODERN. We're not looking for a simple rehash of what we already have, and we're not looking for anything old school or retro.
***PS #1: we've included here for your review our current logo file, a couple variants that we've used recently, as well as a few samples of application to give you an idea of how we use and occasionally deconstruct our current logo for application.
***PS #2: Sometimes in our marketing materials we use the slogans or tag lines, 'The Original BMX Superstore' and 'Nothing but BMX'. This is not required for the logo, and not something we use in most applications. But thought it might be a useful reference to give a better understanding of our company/brand.
